چکیده
Silicon carbide (SiC) possesses a unique combination of properties such as high mechanical strength at elevated temperatures, wear resistance, low thermal expansion coefficient, temperature oxidation corrosion stability, radiation hardness, chemical inertness, and conductivity. Unfortunately, SiC is very brittle cannot, therefore, be used “as is”. SiC’s crack due to the prevention propagation, can increased by reinforcing SiC. In this paper, novel method for manufacturing SiC-based composites reinforced with Mo wire developed. The are produced infiltrating porous carbon blanks molten silicon. silicon reacts molybdenum embedded in blanks. As result, complex interfacial silicide layer predominant MoSi2 phase formed on surface wire. addition, thin Mo5Si3 between residual metal core disilicide. A stable bond both ceramic matrix observed. Mechanical tests obtained samples three-point bending 20 1500 °C showed quasi-plastic damage. elements act stoppers propagating cracks event failure. developed producing makes it possible reduce cost machining products geometric shapes. It also opens way broader applications composites.

Ultrasonic assisted turning of an aluminium-based metal matrix composite reinforced with SiC particles
In this study, diamond turning of an aluminiumbased metal matrix composite (MMC) reinforced with SiC particles was conducted with the assistance of ultrasonic vibrations. A simple and small size vibration device was designed to mount a piezoelectric transducer and a diamond insert onto a CNC machine. Turning experiments were carried out using a factorial design to investigate the effects of vib...
متن کاملNUCLEATION PHENOMENON IN SiC PARTICULATE REINFORCED MAGNESIUM COMPOSITE
Metal matrix composite (MMC) technology can improve the service performance of matrix metals and alloys. Most magnesium alloy based MMCs are produced via a casting process, therefore the casting microstructures are of vital importance to their performance in service. The formation of microstructure during solidification of MMCs is mainly influenced by four factors: nucleation (or its absence) o...

Particle-induced periprosthetic osteolysis and subsequent aseptic implant loosening are a major cause of compromising the long-term results of total joint replacements. To date, no implant has been able to mirror radically the tribological factors (friction/lubrication/wear) of in vivo tribological pairings. Carbon-Fibre Reinforced SiC-Composites (C/SiSiC), a material primarily developed for br...
متن کاملAnalytical electron microscopy of W-core β-SiC fibers for use in an SiC-based composite material for fusion applications.
In this work, the interactions between tungsten (W) and silicon carbide (SiC) in Sigma SiC fibers at high temperatures were characterized using scanning and transmission electron microscopy. These fibers could have the potential for use in fusion-related applications owing to their high thermal conductivity compared with pure SiC-based fibers. The as-received fibers were composed of a 100-μm-th...
متن کاملA Zener±Stroh crack in a ®ber-reinforced composite material
A Zener±Stroh crack is formed by coalescing a dislocation pileup and therefore is a net dislocation loaded crack. In this paper, the interaction between a Zener±Stroch crack and surrounding cylindrical ®bers in a ®ber-reinforced composite material has been investigated. The crack is located in the matrix and near a ®ber, while the in ̄uence of other ®bers on the crack is considered through the t...
